GLENPOOL, Okla. — Local headliners, food trucks, craft booths, award-winning carnival, games and a craft beer garden will all be a part of Glenpool’s upcoming festival, which annually celebrates the community’s rich oil heritage.
Glenpool will hold its 42nd annual BlackGold Days Festival Oct. 1-4 at BlackGold Park, 95 W. 145th St. and Highway 75, in Glenpool.
BlackGold Days Festival commemorates the gusher struck on Nov. 22, 1905, by wildcatters Robert Galbreath and Frank Chesley on a tiny farm owned by Ida E. Glenn. The discovery known as the “Glenn Pool” has since produced more than 340 million barrels, which most notably made the Tulsa area famous and supported troops and vehicles in WWII.
“This is going to be the best BlackGold Days festival of recent history,” Glenpool Chamber of Commerce Director Sydney Bland said. “We’re pouring more funds into entertainment, staging and seating than ever before, and we really appreciate this year’s presenting sponsors, Drs. Parnam Mohanna and Dalia Georgie, owners of Complete Cosmetic Care Dentistry, for stepping up in a big way.”
The chamber’s BlackGold Days committee has been working on the event since last year’s event ended, according to Bland.
She said this event takes a lot of hard work and planning, and the City of Glenpool also pours a tremendous amount of work and volunteers into it.
“We couldn’t do it without the City of Glenpool,” she said.
This year’s BlackGold Days Festival welcomes the return of a carnival presented by Great Plains Amusements – including a brand new amusement ride from Europe, Miss Glenpool Pageant, kids games and attractions, frog and turtle races, watermelon seed-spitting contests, a biergarten and dancing to regionally popular bands.
Food truck aficionados will find lemonade, corn dogs, funnel cakes, barbecue, Indian Tacos and many other items at the food court while surveying arts, crafts and products at the vendor booths.
The Glenpool Chamber of Commerce takes pride in the city’s history and is committed to a fun,
safe, family-friendly, community-centered and memorable experience for all.
Other sponsors include First United Bank, Saint Francis Glenpool, American Heritage Bank, Mabrey Bank, Mark Allen Chevrolet, Oklahoma Natural Gas Co., Adrenaline Fitness, BancFirst, OG & E, American Waste Control, Inc., BTC Broadband and Jiffy Lube.
A new Facebook page, BlackGold Days 2020 Volunteers is up and running for those who would like to be more involved in the action.
