2010 Glenpool Black Gold Days and Music Festival

The 32nd Annual Black Gold Days, a celebration commemorating the 1905 discovery of oil in Glenpool, will be held Thursday June 17th through Saturday June 19th.  The event, sponsored by the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce takes place in Black Gold Park on U.S. 75 at 145th Street. The festival has come a long way from the first Black Gold Days when the festival was held at a sports complex on 141st and Elwood Street where attendance now averages 9,000 to 11,000 each day. The festival, along with the town of Glenpool, is certainly shedding the image of “the town that made Tulsa famous” and making a name for their self.

After months of hard work the Black Gold Days Committee introduced the new 2010 festival logo. The logo was first unveiled for the Glenpool Mayor and Council Members at a regular council meeting this month. The design was made possible by High Maintenance, a local Glenpool business. The new logo design has a rustic yet festive appeal, it will be printed on the Black Gold t-shirts and will be available at the festival and are currently available for pre-sale by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Two sponsors for the t-shirts have been secured and they are Key Construction and The Glenpool Conference Center.

Festivities kick off at 4:00 p.m. Thursday when the Boy Scouts raise the American flag followed by attractions which include a carnival, food, crafts, a parade and a three day Music Festival. Pride Amusement Carnival will return and with them bring the carnival atmosphere where food is the only other necessity. Food vendors attending will include Cuban, Cajun and German food vendors in addition to traditional corn dogs, turkey legs and kettle corn.

The evening will be aglow with lights provided by Black Gold Days sponsor Airstar Space Lighting. Airstar,  a Texas based company whose growth has expanded into Oklahoma,  will provide evening lighting for the festival using their Crystal 160 5' diameter air-filled balloons. Although, for those who at just into the dark, a Rock Mining and Relic vendor will be available to peak the interest of adults and children alike.

On Thursday evening the park will awake with the sound of a gospel singing with the Homesteader Quartet. Donnie and Lisa Williamson, two members of the quartet, both came from gospel singing families and have dedicated their lives to sharing their talent. Amy Lishbrook, Ryan Fritz Band and Our Masters Voice will perform earlier in the show beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Friday evening, local artist, Steve Pryor takes the stage. Pryor, a well known Tulsa blues musician and 2009 inductee into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall Fame, will take the stage at 8:00 p.m. The stage will be shared with other talented musician such as James Groves, Mikel Lee and The Blazer Band.

Saturday, the Lions Club will begin the festival at 7:00 a.m. with a pancake breakfast followed by a frog jump-turtle race at 9:00 a.m. The Black Gold parade will be held later at 11:00 a.m. Saturday afternoon and evening will be packed with country music entertainers from all over Oklahoma. Country Music Night begins at 1:00 p.m. with the "heavy wood" sound of Paul Sprawl followed by Robin Sengupta, Foyil Music Studio, Mike Warehime and The Trails End Band. At 9:30 p.m. South 40 Band takes the stage and closes the festival.
