2012 Glenpool Black Gold Days and Music Festival

The 34nd Annual Black Gold Days, a celebration commemorating the 1905 discovery of oil in Glenpool, will be held Thursday June 14th through Saturday June 16th.  The event, sponsored by the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce takes place in Black Gold Park on U.S. 75 at 145th Street. The festival has come a long way from the first Black Gold Days when the festival was held at a sports complex on 141st and Elwood Street where attendance now averages 9,000 to 11,000 each day. The festival, along with the town of Glenpool, is certainly shedding the image of  the town that made Tulsa famous  and making a name for their self.

After months of hard work the Black Gold Days Committee introduced the new festival logo. The logo was first unveiled for the Glenpool Mayor and Council Members at a regular council meeting this month. The new logo design has a rustic yet festive appeal, it will be printed on the Black Gold t-shirts.

Festivities kick off at 5:00 p.m. Thursday when the Boy Scouts raise the American flag followed by attractions which include a carnival, food, crafts, a parade and a three day Music Festival. Great Plains Amusement will bring the carnival atmosphere where food is the only other necessity. Food vendors attending will include Cajun and German food vendors in addition to traditional corn dogs, turkey legs and kettle corn.

This year will be the first Mr. and Miss Black Gold Pageant the festival has ever had! The pageant will be Thursday, June 14th with registration at 6:30pm and the event starting at 7pm. Sunny and Rowdy will be there from KVOO! Everyone will win something, and Miss Black Gold Days will lead the parade Saturday June 16th. No experience necessary! The age divisions are as follows:

3-8 years
